In a follow-up to his pastoral note, “Our Apostolic Moment,” Archbishop Aquila is inviting all of the faithful of the Archdiocese of Denver to Encounter the Risen Jesus this Easter season. How will we do that together? Join us as we pray weekly.
On February 7, 2026, Pope Leo XIV announced the appointment of Bishop James R. Golka as the sixth Archbishop of Denver.
Archbishop-designate Golka currently serves as Bishop of the Diocese of Colorado Springs and will succeed Samuel J. Aquila, who has faithfully led the Archdiocese of Denver since 2012. In keeping with canon law, Archbishop Aquila offered his resignation upon turning 75, and the Holy Father has accepted it.
Archbishop-designate Golka will be installed at a solemn Mass on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, when he will officially begin his ministry as shepherd of the Archdiocese of Denver.
Please join us in praying for Archbishop-designate Golka as he prepares to serve our local Church, and in gratitude for Archbishop Aquila’s many years of faithful leadership.

This year’s Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal is more important than ever. The first million in donated funds will go directly to parishes to help mitigate the decrease in general offertory during this pandemic. Thank you for your generosity towards this year’s Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal.
